I asked the server if she knew what was in it thinking she might rattle off a couple of ingredients to combine with tequila and hopefully I would be able to remember when I got home. I liked it but it was a little on the sweet side. It was enough to fill both glasses! It was a hit, especially with Becki. Our server gave the shaker a flamboyant shake table side before she split the drink between two glasses of ice. When the watermelon margarita was brought to our table, it was in a red plastic shaker filled with ice and the cocktail. I wouldn’t even consider driving after a cocktail if the boys were with me so I always reframed except just a sip of Becki’s to taste something new…unless it was just Becki and me (sorry dear, the boys outrank you). Now before you get all riled up about drinking and driving, I always limit myself to one drink at dinner, whatever that might be, and DO NOT drink anything containing alcohol if the boys are with me. I said I’d try some of Becki’s and the server said she could bring two glasses…even better. Becki was pretty much a tea totler at the time but she spoke up and said she wanted to try one. Our server said it was a watermelon margarita. On one of our date nights, we went to Longhorn’s and noticed a lot of the other patrons were having a red drink served in a margarita glass. It was only 15 minutes from our house so we could go to dinner and still head over to the theater in Fayetteville, GA for a movie. There weren’t many options in our community for restaurants suitable for date night but one of our regular locals was the Long Horn Steakhouse in Peachtree City, GA. We were very picky about who kept our boys so we always used either of the same two sisters. Years ago, when the boys were young enough to require a baby sitter, Becki and I would have date night at least once per month and call the sitter. So, what is the classic proportions? The Watermelon Margarita The recipe is really quite simple, you always keep the proportions the same and use different flavored mixers. The classic lime margarita, strawberry margaritas, mango margaritas (yum!), and Becki’s favorite: watermelon margarita, and the list goes on. When it comes to margaritas there are a myriad of flavors to choose from. Whether you call it cocktail time, sundowner or just the end of the day, the classic margarita, and specifically the watermelon margarita, is our go-to beverage of choice at our house when we realize it’s 5 o’clock…
